This Is Why You Don’t Trust Your Gut When Making Decisions

How do you make business decisions: Do you analyse the crap out of the situation, or go with your gut feelings? Either way, you’re not alone. Apparently, it’s a 50/50 split.

Which means it’s probably safe to say that at least half of us have had a gut feeling about something.

Ever had these things like this happen to you?

You feel a strong urge to phone your favourite restaurant (that’s always booked out) at the exact moment a table becomes available.

You take an earlier exit off the highway for no reason and happen to avoid a traffic accident that caused hours of traffic congestion.

Instead of doing an assignment, you feel utterly compelled to go to a coffeeshop where you meet your future spouse.

Call it an instinct, intuition, inner voice, sixth sense, a hunch, or an inkling — these feelings are spontaneous and become stronger when we ignore them.

I’ve noticed in my own experience that I sometimes have an intuitive urge to do (or say — eek!) something completely left field.

Which is all well and good in our personal life where the stakes aren’t as high. The challenge in following our intuition in business is that it isn’t always sensible to do so. We’ve got…
